J&K: Egyptomaniacs/ The Making of, photo, 2006/2007
01/09
Egyptomaniacs is a sampling of impressions, artefacts, staged photos and documented performances which has been collected and processed by J&K ((Janne Schäfer (DE) og Kristine Agergaard (DK)) during a longterm residency in Egypt in 2006. We commence in a dimly lit corridor that features text panels, photographs and diorama boxes. This is where J&K’s narrative begins, conjuring up a pseudo-documentary and fictional futuristic universe, where former colonials are trapped in tourist resorts and prophets meet witches from the African interior and hip-hoppers from Cairo. At the end of the corridor a somewhat startling scenario awaits us. For we step into a huge diorama box where we ourselves become part of a mythical and possibly post-apocalyptic landscape. Egyptomaniacs is J&K's first major exhibition in Denmark.
