Away From It All – A Collective Road Trip by Mette Hammer Juhl

The dream of simply driving away… Not to get there, but to be on the way.

Hop on the bus on Saturday 12 September, when visual artist Mette Hammer Juhl takes us on a collective road trip by bus from the east to the wild west. The journey connects the openings of Bruno Zhu’s exhibitions at O—Overgaden and Huset for Kunst og Design (HFKD), which open on the same day.

Along the way, we explore the road trip as a modern myth, with stories of freedom, escape, fear, and the fantasy that life might be transformed at the next exit.

Through music, stories, small refreshments, and other elements, Juhl takes us out onto the highways and back roads—a dreamscape populated by adventurers, truck drivers, speed demons, and people who just need to get some air. The journey between the two locations thus becomes a movement through the country, from Copenhagen to Holstebro.

So, join us on the road as we head towards the horizon together, connecting two locations, two exhibition spaces, and two realities in one collective event.

The event is free, and places on the bus will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, as capacity is limited. You can reserve your seat by writing to overgaden@overgaden.org.

Together with her co-sheriff Louise Tandrup Esbensen, she runs Country Town, a project space and artist residency that creates a space for artistic production and exchange in Western Jutland.
